Merlin the Musician
As a teenager, Merlin was an accomplished pianist transitioning to the trumpet as his instrument of choice. Becoming a DJ was the perfect fit for one so musically oriented. Rhythm and music went hand in hand for him, adding social dance instruction to his musical interests. Partner style dancing has become one of the lost arts of the 'social graces,' we must endeavor to keep it alive. In addition to DJ entertainment, Merlin currently performs with the Sentimental Journey Band, and Mariachi San Jose, Western Colorado's finest mariachi ensemble, led by virtuoso guitarist Javier de los Santos. He brings his trumpet to every event adding an element of 'live musicianship” to his DJ presentations.
Our Journey
Becoming a radio DJ at a small Western Kansas radio station, KULY in Ulysses, Kansas led to a 30 year career in broadcasting. From multiple radio jobs in Kansas to radio and club work in Des Moines, IA, back to Kansas, to New Mexico and eventually becoming “ Merlin in the Morning' in Grand Junction, CO, it was quite the route. Throughout his career, he continued his passion for making music, teaching people to dance and event production.
Musicianship
Merlin brings another element of entertainment to every event. From performing a live version of 'Trumpet Voluntary' for the Brides processional to accompanying many of the songs you'll be dancing to...He's NOT just another DJ, he's an entertainer. We can also connect you with other professional musicians if you might be wanting a string quartet, harpist, or guitarist for your event.
Experience and Expertise
With well over 2000 corporate, private and wedding events to his credit, Merlin laces a number of other event skills into his quiver of experience including: concert stage management, lighting and audio technician, dance instructor, wedding officiant, trumpet player, event coordinator and commercial voice over work.
